In early 2013, one grandson took his late grandmother’s trinkets, heirlooms, and furniture into the back room of his favorite nightclub, and set himself up one of the most singular, unique, and downright odd cocktail bars in London.
Now Little Nan’s (in honor of Tristan’s ‘little nan’ Jojo) is one of the most talked-about and popular cocktail spots in town, back in Deptford after a few years touring the capital as a pop-up lounge. Set under three railway arches of the historic Deptford Carriage ramp next to Deptford High Street Station, with chintzy decor and portraits of EastEnders icon Pat Butcher covering the walls. The atmosphere is as hip, trendy, and left field as you can possibly get.
Originally planned as a beer and cider bar, the prospect of serving cocktails in Little Nan’s finest china, straight from the teapot, proved too tempting, and the signature Tea Time cocktails are a must-try. At Little Nan’s, “afternoon tea” means something quite different to anywhere else!
There’s a genuine feeling of nostalgia here, and a vibe fuelled by love, but that’s not to say that it doesn’t get wild at times, with top DJs spinning tunes and plenty of dancing on tables. It’s as if your grandma got a little frisky, and set up a rave in her back room!
In a city full of great cocktail joints, concept bars, and speakeasies, Little Nan’s is one of the absolute best and a real treat.
