Aeromexico Airlines is one of the oldest airlines in Latin America. It started flying with 1 plane in 1934 and now has grown to over 100 planes. Aeromexico’s logo is the Eagle Knight which was inspired by the ancient Mexican culture. Aeromexico Airlines is known for providing affordable air tickets. Aeromexico has a great customer service that addresses customer concerns with their 24x7 customer service.
Aeromexico was established as Aeronaves de México on 15 September 1934, by Antonio Díaz Lombardo. Its first aircraft was a Stinson SR Reliant 5A. Julio Zinser piloted the maiden flight on the Mexico City – Acapulco route on 14 September 1934.
When World War II began, the airline continued to grow with the help of Pan Am, which owned 25% of the new Mexican airline. Aeroméxico saw few changes for the next two decades. However, during the 1950s, renovation began, and the airline took over various small competitor companies across the country, including Aerovías Guest (the second airline of the country at that time) that held the routes to Madrid and Paris.
Aeromexico was severely impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak in the aviation industry worldwide. During the first half of 2020, Aeromexico's shares fell, and there were reports that the firm was filing for bankruptcy; however, on June 19, the corporation disputed these reports. Aeroméxico voluntarily declared bankruptcy under Chapter 11 in the US on June 30. However, regular business will carry on while the corporation is restructured. Management said that existing tickets should still be honored and that regular staff pay will continue.
Shareholder Delta Air Lines stated on July 1, 2021 that it will buy $185 million of the Mexican airline's Chapter 11 debt.
