1A Princeton Street, London
Have you ever wondered what life might be like if you won a Nobel Prize? Or what it would be like to operate a nuclear reactor? How you would fare at a spot of money laundering?
Novelty Automation is a charming little funhouse stuffed full of retro arcade games...but with a twist. The machines pay homage to the British traditions of seaside pier amusement arcades, and satirical automata, and are all based on situations found in everyday life (some quite extreme!).
There are no ridiculous flights of fancy, sci-fi, or fantasy adventures to be had here, but rather a 3-minute all-inclusive holiday, or the chance at homeownership for the first time. The games are silly, off-hand, even vulgar at times, but are enormous fun as a result.
Just five minutes' walk from Holborn tube station, this is an eclectic and alternative amusement arcade. It was designed to be a tongue-in-cheek tonic to the overly serious diversions that a tourist itinerary is often full of. Don’t worry about the Novelty Automation cost--the machines are all operated by token, and if you played every one you would still have change from £20. A brilliant and bizarre way to wile away an hour or so while in Central London.
