Don’t ski? No worries! You are at the best place because Summit County, Colorado is full of activities for non skiers. Here are some of the awesome adventures you do without hitting the slopes.
Frisco Adventure Park
Frisco Adventure Park is a recreational attraction filled with fun activities to enjoy with your family.
Tubing: They offer a 1,200 ft tubing lane which is a great activity for families.
Snowshoeing: There are many guided tours that you can sign up for so don’t worry about getting lost. The trails are very scenic and you will be surrounded by mountains.
Park Sleigh Rides: Snuggle in the horse drawn sleigh rides.
BreckConnect Gondola
The gondola is a great place to take in the surrounding views as you ascend up the mountain. Each gondola has 8 seats and panoramic windows. It’s also only a 2-minute walk from the main street. The gondola is free for all riders and dogs can ride for free too! If you have kids on board a fun game to play is to look out for moose or spot bald eagles in the mountains below.
Snowcat Tour
If you don’t ski or snowboard this is a perfect way to see the beautiful snowy terrain that you wouldn’t be able to experience as a non skier. On this tour, you are able to visit the mountaintops in an enclosed and heated snowcat! The snowcat will take you and your family (it can take up to X amount of people) more than 12,000 ft where you can see panoramic views. The tour is great for all ages. You can stop and take photos and absorb the priceless view.
Sleigh Ride
Ride the old fashioned way on a horse drawn sleigh and take in the majestic mountains surrounding you. The sleigh rides are typically 35-45 minutes long. One of the best places to go on this adventure is Breckenridge Stables. Their sleighs are Amish-made with cushioned seats. They offer blankets for extra warmth and hot chocolate to make the trip even more special. The sleighs can accommodate up to 12-14 people but they also offer smaller tours for up to 6 people.
Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing hikes are mostly the same trails as hiking trails. The need for snowshoes come from the packed snow, without one at points you might find yourself in hip deep snow. One of the most special snowshoeing experiences out there is the moonlight guided tour. On the moonlight tour, you get to experience the quiet and empty trails at night with the moonlight shining down on the trail.
Snowmobiling
Don’t worry you don’t have to be an expert to go on a snowmobile expedition. There are many trails for different levels of riders. Well groomed trails are reserved for beginners whereas the powder trails for experienced riders. The expeditions usually last 1 to 3 hours. It’s a great way to see the wilderness and somewhat untouched areas of the Rocky Mountains
Ice Skating
Breckenridge is home to the Stephen C. West Ice Arena that features both indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks. They offer group or individual lessons in case you are trying to work on your skills. The rink has heated locker rooms and yummy treats you can snack on if you get hungry from your workout.
Fat Bikes
Go fat biking at Gold Run Nordic. They offer tours for all levels but we highly recommend beginners taking a guided tour as the instructor will give you notes on how to make the most of your fat bikes. If you decide to go out on your own you will need to pay for a daily trail pass to access the terrains. Gold Run Nordic also offers Full Moon Fat Bike tours where you get to experience the terrain at night with the bright moon in the sky.
